To help increase roadway safety, the U.S Department of Transportation (DOT) performs inspections on commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) ensuring all parts and components are in good working condition. As a truck driver, you are probably familiar with this process. For trailers that require a DOT inspection, it must be checked annually at a minimum. It is possible to see DOT roadside inspections throughout the year, these checks will be require the same safety standards as an annual inspection.
